Product Review - The SunnySeat 02/28/2011
Hi Furriends, Meowmy here! The nice folks from SunnySeat contacted us to review their product, and of course we accepted! The SunnySeat is a window sill/Perch that attaches directly to the windows or glass doors with big suction cups, requiring no tools, thus avoiding any damage to the window framing and painting. It comes in a thin and long box, which the kitties came to inspect immediately! Inside of the box, the product comes already half assembled, making the remaining assembly quite intuitive. The bed already comes mounted, the wires attached and hooked to the respective cups. The only thing you need to do is remove the cardboard and attach the bottom cups. The instructions are one page - here is where IMHO the product lacks. It is more warnings than instructions, per se. And while the product comes pretty much assembled, there are some key points to make this item safe and effective that I would like to see it in the instructions. I will get to that later. As far as directions, the only thing you will find here, is to clean the windows and cups well, to hook the bottom cups first, and washing instructions. The rest is pretty much warnings. So, here is step 1: Attach the bottom cup to the window first. A detailed view of the suction cups - On their website/Infomercial, they say these are "Industrial Size Suction Cups" I can't testify for that, as I never seen and Industrial Suction Cup size before, but these are pretty big. Once you put it on plce they stay on well, and are easy to come off if you pull from the sides. Onto Step 2: Attaching the top Suction Cups: Here is something that in my opinion it is important and is missing in the instructions: You need to make sure that the wires are completely straight. If you look from the front, you should see a perfect 90 degree angle. Remember, to detach a suction cup, you pull it from the sides, and if the wires are not perfectly straight, you are essentially doing that, constantly pulling them sideways until they detach it. They will fall. It can take a little while to get them straight, but it can be done. Now the kitty test! Lucky spent a few hours on it and loved it! I like that the cover is removable and unlike a perch, it doesn't get as hot so she was pretty comfortable in it. Almost like a hammock, good for warmer days. After three or so hours, I checked the cups and there was no air in it whatsoever. I am sure it could gone much longer. I do think one would have to push the cups in a couple of times a day just for good measure, or at least check. Something else I would like to see in the instructions, is how to properly attach the suction cups to make it stick longer - here are a few tricks I know: 1- Clean the window and the cups with alcohol and a paper towel (or newspaper) - not with a cloth, as it leaves fibers behind, removing some of the suction. 2- Moisten the center of the cup a bit - just the center before you apply suction - this will give you a better seal. You can put anything in there, just make sure it doesn't get it to the edges. 3- Of course, when you apply the cup, make sure there is no air left in, at all. Lucky is 12.5 lbs or so, and the infomercial says it holds up to 40lbs. I am not keeping it as I live on the first floor and for me it would mean having to leave the windows wide open all the time to use it - but it is a great concept for someone who is not on the same situation as I am. I am donating this piece for an upcoming auction on the Blogosphere - it is in the package, and was used for the review only! I am sure a kitty will enjoy very much! Below is the infomercial for it- of course it makes it look much easier than it is to place on the window... If you do it like that, I am sure it will be on the floor in not time LOL. Thanks for visiting furriends, watch for this item to be showing up at a CB Auction Soon! The SunnySeat Retails for: 2 for 1 Offer $19.99, + $15.98 S+H ($19.99 each, $7.99 each S+H) *Disclaimer - SunnySeat gave me a free SunnySeat for reviewing purposes. 13 Comments Product Review - The KatKabin! 01/08/2011
Hello furriends, meowmy here! Today I am going to be reviewing the KatKabin, an outdoor cat house cute enough to also be used inside of any household! Without further ado, here are our impressions of it: The KatKabin arrives in a BIG box - the box is impressive, but surprisingly, it is pretty light... The whole thing probably weighted a little over 12lbs or so. When I opened the box, I was immediately wow'ed by the beautiful bright pink color. I am not too into bright colors myself, but the shade of the pink was just SO cute!! There is no padding on the box, and the KatKabin just comes wrapped in a plastic, as seen below - there was no damage at all, the design of the product itself makes it perfect for shipping without requiring any extra padding... Inside of the box, you find the KatKabin, an insulating cushion pad with a removable washable cover, and a front cover flap as pictured below. Also note the cute cat-face design - the KatKabin even has cute ears and whiskers!!! As you can see below the entrance is not flat, there is an indentation of several inches, so the front entry is covered, which protects the inside chamber from the rain, sun, wind and snow. The KatKabin also features an aerodynamic design with oval sides allowing the wind to go through it without turning it or carrying it away. The Front, back, and connecting middle strip also completely cover the plastic joints, making it further weather-proof. The cat flap is thick, sturdy and very clear. It is also quite easy to install. The only assembly required on this product is inserting the cushion and the cat flap. I suggest using the KatKabin without the flap for a few days until the kitty is used to the unit, then installing it on. I can definitely see how it would help to protect the kitty from the hash elements, especially during the winter. The KatKabin is elevated from the ground to keep the kitty protected from the cold and heat, and the feet has holes on it to make it easy to securing it to the ground, front porch, etc. If you live in an extremely windy area, this feature will come quite handy for you. There are ventilation holes on the back, so the air circulates nicely throughout. Now the very important part: the kitties' impressions: Since the moment I took it out of the box and put it in my living room yesterday, the KatKabin has been occupied non-stop by my three cats. If they could form a line to use it, the would! As I type this review, no joking - Lucky is laying inside of it, and Hope is trying to get into it... She looks quite disappointed that Lucky took her place! It has been a huge success. Earlier today it was in my bedroom and I went to pick it up to move to the living room... As soon as I tried to lift it, I felt it pretty heavy... Out jumps Bugsy! The KatKabin has been used 100% of the time by all of them, no exception - this has never happened with any other cat bed in the house, aside from the cat tree, but then that doesn't qualify as a bed. The KatKabin is a great product for both outside and inside kitties. It provides shelter, safety, and it protects the kitties from the elements. The design is quite cool, the colors are awesome, and it is definitely kitty approved. The body plastic is not very thick, but it is no doubt quality plastic; I do not see it getting damaged easily, especially considering the oval design. One thing I would recommend for those living in very cold weather who would be using this outside, is getting the extra insulating liner they sell on their site, the Winter Warmer for KatKabin DezRez. That way the kitty would be completely protected, cozy and warm during the coldest of the winters. I think the standard is enough for rain, wind, sun, and a mild winter, but not insulated enough for harsh, colder winters... In those cases you will need extra insulation. But that is not a big deal, as they do have that available... Just make sure to get it if that is your case! The Overall dimensions are: L: 22" x W: 16" x H: 13" And exciting news Furriends! The good folks at KatKabin offered us to donate a KatKabin in Divine Purple to a Cat Blogosphere Auction!!! KC will be announcing that soon.... Oh, it is SO pretty! You can see it, and read about it in here. *Disclaimer - KatKabin gave me a free KatKabin DezRez for reviewing purposes. Product Review - Klaw Kontrol 02/09/2010
Lucky will be helping me reviewing the Klaw Kontrol Bag today, as I had already used it on Bugsy in the morning, and wanted to use in a second subject to make sure it worked as well on her as it did on him. *** Of course, the cat is dot included! *** Ok, seriously now... This bag is AWESOME if you have a cat difficult to administer medicine to, and you need to do it on a regular basis, which is my case. I can not stress how AWESOME it is.... Absolutely AWESOME. For those who don't know, Bugsy is an 18lb Ragdoll, who is very hard to give meds to... and I mean... very hard... When I found out that I was going to need to give him meds 2x a day for 14 days, and then once a day for life, I went into a depression. Seriously. On the first day home I had to take him back to the doctor to give him the meds, as I couldn't do it... He is not mean, doesn't bite, but he is extremely strong, and will not let you give it to him. He has got a will. So, when I saw this bag online, I thought it just might be my salvation.... boy, was I right or what??? The bag is made of nylon, and has one top zipper, two side vents, two from side zippers for the front paws, an adjustable collar, and a bottom-back zipper, that allows you to pull the tail, and access to the butt for temperature taking. To put the cat in the bag is not hard at all - you just open the top zipper, put the cat in, close the collar first, then pull the zipper closed. By the third time I used, Bugsy already knew what to do - once I laid the bag open on the floor, he would just lay on the top of it, perfectly in place, and I would close it. To give meds, you would leave both paws inside of the bag (I forgot one paw out in the picture, sorry), so your hands would be completely free - one to hold the head, and the other to give the medicine, in my case with a syringe. I do it sitting on the floor, with him on my lap, facing the other way (he is facing the same way I am facing). OMG OMG OMG - This has been a Life saver! I can not tell how much easier this bag has made both of our lives! It is SO much quicker, easier, less messier, less traumatizing to give him his meds that it took a huge strain out of our relationship. In turn, he is a lot less stressed out, and hanging around much more. When cutting nails, all you need to do is pull a paw at a time through the respective zipper, and go for it! Kitty might complain and try to get off, but will not be able to do so... You can then do it very quickly. The bag on the picture looks big on Lucky, because it is big for her. This one is the XL, for Bugsy, who is 18lbs. I do however feel I can use it on her without a problem; for Hope on the other hand, it would definitely be too big. At first I thought the bag ran a little on the smaller size, but now, I don't know if it is because I am getting better at putting it on, or if it gives it a little, but it is fitting better on Bugsy.... On the first day it was tight tight. It says it fits a 25lb pet, but I am not sure if it does. This is the only reservation I have. Another thing: It is made of Nylon, not Iron, so the one or two claw do go through sometimes... No biggie... I see no damage to the bag so far... All and all, I can not recommend this enough if you have a cat, and you need to give medication on a regular basis... I can not imagine the world of a difference this bag must make if you nave to give SubQ fluids for example... It is truly a great item. I am not sure how long it will last yet, but so far it has proven itself well worth it! For paws up up up! The bag comes in Small (5-10lbs), Large (10-15lbs) and X-Large (15-25lbs) | Our cat blogTranslate this page
