We have atomic fleas here in Texas! 03/08/2010
Hi, Lucky here! I knew it! Remember when meowmy had the brilliant (not) idea to let us experience the great newness of our first snow? Well... we had been inside only for a long time, so not treated for fleas or anything... Fast forward a few weeks and ta-da! What do we have? FLEAS! Meowmy caught one flea on me! It took me a whole five minutes in a frigid frozen outside experiencing the great wet snow.... and what am I left with? Fleas and a run of stinky Revolution! What's worst, I am sure that flea has been on me for quite a few days... Oh boy! Has anybody ever told you we have atomic bugs in Texas? Oh yeah, psss they could care less about a feet and half of snow! By the way, Here is what my friend Simon the cat has to say about Snow - I tend to agree with him now - completely senseless! CommentsSorry about those pesky fellas!!!

Our human uses Advantage in the spring and summer, but here in Ontario it's plenty cold enough that no fleas will be around during the winter. Hmm, come to think of it, in another month or two she'll have to start again.

Unfortunately, in Texas, you have to treat for fleas all year long! Winter is the best (worst) time to get them!

Yes, a good freeze is always good to get rid of the fleas but the ground really needs to freeze hard (it doesn't always when you have snow). We know that around here where we sometimes we get a bit of snow but the ground doesn't freeze deeply enough to kill off those fleas..

Ugh, we hate fleas. Daddy does something in our yard right after da snow starts to melt dat keeps fleas outta der, but we can't go on da grass for two days (his rules) after he does it. We'z neffur hadded fleas here but da one dat came before came wif dem!

Our dad spent his summers in Texas as a kid and we have heard about the bug there - we aren't surprised they could survive the snow! We had fleas in the house when Virgil first came home (he was a feral baby cat (4 wks old) when he came here) so we went on Frontline for a while til they were gone (well, Virgil couldn't have it of course, he was too little). Mom would use the flea comb to get rid of them.
