Hi, Mom here!
For those who are familiar with this blog and Bugsy, he was sick pretty much all his life. Bugsy had a rough time right from the start... His IBD was pretty bad.
It got completely out of control though when he went to the ER for an UTI and was prescribed Clavamox -
from that day on, we fought 14 months of daily violent diarrhea. We tried EVERYTHING - all treatments, all diets... there were many vet trips many ER trips, so many drugs, his liver started suffering. We were hopeless.
His vet scheduled an exploratory surgery - it was our last hope..... or not, as one of the possibilities were lymphoma.
It was then that I decided to give Raw a try. I HATED the thought - I was scared for him....
Such was the brainwashing about "Bacterial issues" and "Salmonella", that I feared his weak immune system would shut down and he would die. I knew in my heart Raw would kill him.
It took eight days to transition him - teaspoon by teaspoon. On the eight day, the first day he ate 100% raw, he had solid stools. Fourteen months of treatments, diets, vet visits, ER, shots, tests........ didn't do what ONE DAY of raw did! I was sold. His vet was sold.
Bugsy has been healthy ever since. He is off all meds, has shed 8 lbs of fat and is no longer obese, and is looking at many years of life ahead of him. All due to feeding a species-appropriate diet. Vet visits? Only for his annual visits, when his vet goes OMG, look how far he's become!
This is why I decided to add a Raw session into this site..... With a bit of our story, and lots of resource links. It's a work in progress - so please be patient... and have fun learning about this wonderful diet!
Today I wanted to share with you a VERY informative interview - Dr. Karen Becker interviews Dr. Lisa Pierson.
Dr. Becker is a fantastic proactive and integrative wellness veterinarian and an animal advocate. Her goal is to help Pet parents create wellness in order to prevent illness in the lives of their pets.
Here is her Facebook Page: Dr. Karen Becker
Dr. Lisa Pierson is a without a doubt, one of the biggest references when it comes to Feline Nutrition. Her website, catinfo.org has become a guide, and a must read for most feline raw feeders, as well as for those seeking a better diet for their cats.
In it you will find information on feline nutrition, recipes, helping with transitioning your cat from kibbles to wet or to raw, the truth about cat food and RX foods....
If you have a cat with IBD, with UTI problems, Allergies, Crystals, Diabetes, Obesity, CKD..... I highly recommend you visiting her page and reading it from top to bottom - that includes all the tabs on the right :D If there is one website I could advise a Cat guardian to read in order provide a better, healthier, longer life to his/her baby, without a shadow of a doubt I would suggest catinfo.org.
Ok, Friends, without further ado, here is the interview - ENJOY!
